NASA needed Unix SPARCstations which Sun had just developed in '89 a few years prior. Unfortunately a year later in '93 the contract was suspended since the U.S. government believed Sun was \"gaming\" their pricing by using an obsolete, artificially cheap workstation model to win the price evaluation.
