Background:

"STS-116 (Space Transportation System) launched on December 9, 2006, crewed by Commander Mark Polansky, Pilot William Oefelein, and Mission Specialists Joan Higginbotham, Robert Curbeam, Nicholas Patrick, Christer Fuglesang (ESA), and Sunita Williams. The primary objectives were delivering and installing the P5 truss segment to expand the ISS's backbone structure and reconfiguring the station's electrical power system. Four spacewalks totaling over 25 hours were conducted, during which Curbeam set a record for the most spacewalks on a single Shuttle mission. The mission also involved a crew swap, with Sunita Williams joining Expedition 14 on the ISS while Thomas Reiter returned to Earth with the Discovery crew. Notably, STS-116 was the first night launch since STS-113 in 2002 and the final Shuttle launch from Launch Pad 39B. Discovery landed on December 22, 2006, after nearly 13 days in orbit."
