"Marking 40 years since the historic 1969 Moon landing, the commemoration centered on July 19–20, 2009. On the eve of the anniversary, all three Apollo 11 crew members — Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins, and Neil Armstrong — gathered at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington alongside NASA Mission Control creator Chris Kraft. On July 20, Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins met with President Obama at the White House, where he remarked on inspiring the next generation of explorers. NASA. From July 16–24, NASA streamed the original mission audio on its website in real time, exactly 40 years to the minute after each event occurred, and also released a preview of restored video footage. On August 7, 2009, Congress awarded the three astronauts the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest civilian honor in the United States."
